William Shakespeare once wrote, "eternity was in our lips and eyes, bliss in our brows' bent," he created this notion that eternity is not a set amount of years but of our own personal perspective and experience. I thought about this quote a lot through the previous year and a half, not only because we have been covering half of our faces with masks but, if we are to follow Shakespeare's rule of thumb by studying time based on the lips and eyes, we only can read half of the story. Make-up seems to help keep that story bright and colorful.

I used to love playing with all kinds of different lipsticks -- any color, any combination you name it, I was excited to catch 'em all!... (Any Pokémon fans out there?) Then, the mandatory face covering was put in order and that playful love I had with lipstick, took a very long winded break. So, with all of the image barricades, I needed to find a new way to express myself through make-up, *insert brow pencils and brushes here*. The "bliss in my brows," sprouted! Here is a picture of me makeup free before the brow application -- can you see the difference it makes in accentuating my facial features?! (So serious...)

I have been having a ton of fun playing around with these products and felt I should write a blog post revealing the brow pencils that I have come to enjoy within every price range! So, here's to putting the 'bliss' back into ALL of our brows.

Now, I say we just kick this post right off with the top tier brow pencil; brow harmony pencil and gel from Rare Beauty by the exceptionally talented Selena Gomez! This brow pen comes with a blend-able pencil that you can retract, while the other side has a tinted brow gel that you can either use with your pen or alone to create a more natural feathered look. I use the rich taupe color. Personally, I had a tough time styling this one when I first started playing around with the gel and pencil combo. After wearing it out a few times and testing the color, I finally grew to love this product and the way it looked on me. You can shop this pencil at your local Sephora or online for just under $29 USD. This is the highest priced pencil among the three.

Hard to beat you say? Well say hello to my little friend, Instant brows by ModelCo! By far one of the best brow pencil and brushes I have used thus far in life. This is my top choice for the second price tier products. The pencil itself is crafted at an angle where you can just glide over the full area of the brow right down to the end of your arch. With very little effort, you can have a natural yet structured brow in just seconds! The best part is, the hold of this waxy formula holds all day long; then when you are ready for bed and wish to take it off, say no more, it wipes off just as easy as it went on. Could not recommend this enough.

Truthfully, I did not purchase this pencil myself from the website, I remember it was gifted to me by a friend who had bought it from a kind of sample sale here in NY. In my opinion, the best products to test out are the free ones; you discover for yourself the true gems and after it's fresh-out, you continue on to buy them... full price! I use the medium/ dark color since my hair is naturally more of a darker golden color, I try to match that while also going a bit more bold with the framing of my face. Pro tip: When filling in your brows, it is usually best to match the root color of your hair line, right at the crown of your head for best color matching results. You can shop this product on their site for $20 USD, if you check back often, you will find that they do site wide discounts pretty frequently!

Furthermore, I saved the lowest price (yet best quality) brow pencil for last. Though it may be last, it most certainly is not the least... the NYX Professional Makeup Vegan Micro Brow Pencil! This pencil is small but mighty! It's quite literally a triple threat; defines brow shape, creates a full-body and covers over any blank spaces. The micro pencil has a skinny, rounded edge that spins up and down for easy access. My co-worker actually gave this brush to me originally, she overheard me talking about needing to try another brow brand and she immediately thought of this NYX pencil! Luckily, we had the same color eyebrows so it was the perfect match. NYX is great in the way that they offer so many colors in all different hues. The color that matched best for me was just the classic taupe color that I use virtually in most pencils. Something that I loved about this pencil was that it is such an easy travel companion due to its smaller nature. I put this baby in any purse/ travel bag and she fight like a glove!

The "spoolie" or brush on the opposite end is also so versatile. I used it to blend the pencil strokes on my eyebrow but also used it as a lash brush when the pencil itself was gone, (after properly washing it of course). The only downfall (which is also oddly a plus) was the size. As I mentioned above, it is quite small that I went through a tube probably after about 4 weeks. Lastly, what truly led me to love this product was the moral stand point, no animal-derived ingredients or by-product! This vegan pencil can be found online or in-stores at Ulta for only $10! We love a good makeup deal.

I hope this creates some clarity for those of you reading who are also curious about these brands and want to give them a try yourselves. As always please let me know if you do and let me know which you liked best OR if you have any other brow pencil recommendations, send them my way! Let me know in the comments here or reach out in my contact page, for any other post ideas you want to see from me or just to say hi!

All the best,

SRS
